Chinese Five Spice Tofu

Chinese Five Spice Tofu

"Chinese five spice is a unique taste that certainly isn't for everyone. If you have 'undeveloped' Western taste-buds, you may want to cut the amount of five-spice required in half, or try a milder recipe for vegetarian Chinese food or tofu. If, however, you want a genuine taste of Chinese cuisine in a vegetarian and vegan tofu recipe, try this recipe for Chinese five spice tofu."

1 block firm or extra-firm tofu, well pressed
1 C vegetable broth
1/4 cup soy sauce (substitute tamari or Bragg’s Amino Acids)
2 T sesame oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 T fresh ginger, minced
1 t sesame seeds
1/2 t Chinese Five Spice powder

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.

Slice tofu into 1/2 inch long strips. Lightly oil or spray a baking pan and arrange the tofu in a single layer in the pan.

In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining ingredients and pour over the tofu slices.

Bake for 15 minutes, then turn the tofu and bake for another 10 to 15 minutes, or until liquid has been absorbed.
