Sleep - Day 9

By now it should be much easier to sleep. We're already heard from some cleansers who have said they're sleeping better than before they started cleansing. And it stands to reason - you’ve eliminated caffeine, sugar and booze – all major culprits in the conspiracy to keep you from getting the quality z's you deserve. Our friend and fellow cleanser Kathleen said, “Now I know that if I feel tired, it’s because I really am. I’m not crashing from caffeine, sugar or the wine I had last night – I’m legitimately tired.” How succinctly and beautifully put! Her body's doing exactly what it's supposed to do!

If you typically fall asleep in front of the television, now is a great time to try turning it off before you close your eyes. You’ll save some energy and probably improve the quality of your sleep – those flashing lights can’t be good! Same thing if you’re a reader who winds up slumped over and drooling into your book while propped up against a few pillows. Turn out the light and see what happens. Chances are you’ll drop off quickly - and your neck will thank you for it in the morning!

Waking up should be easier, too. You might look more awake in the morning; less puffy, perhaps. And check out your eyes – they’re probably clearer and more alert-looking. Don’t you love waking up… awake?

Be sure to check out Prevention Magazine for a great article - "This is Your Body Without Sleep." At the end of the article there are tips to help you get your sleep routine together.

Here's to a fine Day 9!

  1. Hi all,

Wow - day 9 sounds amazing. We are really into this thing! I'm proud of all of us.

I wanted to respond to your sleep blog, Ivy. I have been going to sleep a little earlier most nights because I feel tired and ready to go to sleep.

I'm still feeling quite sluggish when I wake up and I'm wondering if anyone has any clues to why that is. Maybe I was more addicted to caffeine than I imagined. It's been 7 days since I had caffeine (remember, I broke down on day 2 last week)so you'd think I'd be all better by now.

To be honest, I'm waking up a lot more sluggish than before the cleanse. I'm wondering if it's because I'm in a dream state right before I wake up - I'm not sure.

At any rate, the cleanse is going great and I'm so happy to be eating healthy foods. I made myself a tofu stir fry last night with a ton of veggies, Bragg's Liquid Aminos, garlic, basil and a szechuan sauce without gluten or sugar. It was delicious.

You guys all have a great day!!!

  2. I wake up and drink a big glass of water. It makes me perk up right away. It could be that your dehydrated and you just need some liquids in your body. I'm sleeping well and eating well. I have lost three pounds and am working out everyday. Maybe my middle aged middle will finally go and stay away. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions they make me feel that I'm not in this alone. My grandson will never have to say I have grandma arms

  3. When I sleep really soundly, it IS harder to wake up and get going, but I think this is a good sign that I'm really getting that good REM sleep time that I need. I love my evening vino and dessert but I do feel more rested without. So why exactly did God create all these wonderful things to consume, only to have them mess us up???? (that's a joke)

Hope everyone is doing well. I even went out the other night to a big party at one of my fave restaurants and DIDN"T CHEAT although I thought about it...

  4. Maggie, for someone who's waking up and feeling sluggish you sure have a lot of enthusiasm! It's infectious! But I think Trish has a good suggestion about considering the possiblity of dehydration and drinking a glass of water right after you wake up. And take a look at how much you're consuming throughout the day. Also, remember that your bedtime is changing - that could mean your waking time needs to adjust too. Try setting your alarm for 5 or 10 minutes earlier or later than usual. You might find a better waking time in your sleep cycle. Also, you might be deficient in your protein - that happens a lot when people cleanse so keep your eye on that as well.

And Trish, I'm so glad you're feeling fierce and seeing great results! And for keeping those flappy arms at bay!

Jeannie - you rock. Hitting a party while you're cleansing is tough; going to your favorite restaurant is super challenging. But combining the two could mean the end for a weaker person. But you did it - don't you feel empowered?!!

Hope everyone's having a great day!
