Day 1 - A Commitment to Yourself

Good Morning, Cleansers!

Today we begin a journey that will give us new insights on our relationships with food, alcohol, ourselves and others. And it may seem daunting as we take our first steps, but remember that we’re all here together to hold each other up, to share war stories and to celebrate little victories. So know that you’re not alone, and remember that you deserve to look and feel your absolute best!

We all deserve to be well taken care of, even if we're the ones who have to do it. And that's exactly what we're doing with this cleanse. It may feel a little awkward and challenging at first, but we'll all find our rhythm soon. So hang in there, have a great Day 1, and check in when you can.

Today I commit to putting myself first for the next 21 days. I can devote 5% of the year to me. I spend the other 95% worrying about someone or something else, skipping workouts to work late or drive the kids around, eating poorly when I’m crunched for time, sacrificing my time for family time. But for the next 21 days I’m going to prove to myself that it doesn’t always have to be that way. For 21 days I’m not going to be pulled by my life – I’m going to set its course. And during that time I will allow myself to believe I deserve to come first, that I deserve to be healthy, that I deserve to feel great, that I deserve to look good, that I deserve the time it takes to care for me.

  1. Here we go! Say I have a little something that I thought might be helpful to share called "Sassy Water". It's supposed to help reduce bloating, aid in digestion and curb the appetite a bit...

    2 qts water
    1 tsp fresh grated ginger
1 med cucumber, peeled and thinly sliced
    1 lemon, thinly sliced
    12 spearmint leaves
Combine the night before and drink it all by the end of each day.

    Good luck to everyone!

  3. Hey all!

I love what was written today - I'm going to print out those affirmations and tape them to my computer. I need to hear that daily!

And the Sassy Water sounds delicious, thanks Jenny!

I'm having decaf green tea instead of my morning coffee. Can I be honest? It's hard. It's just not the same. And I'm exhausted today, because I chose to have some sugar at the end of the night last night. Bad call the night before a cleanse. I'm worried I will really be a zombie without caffeine. But I didn't use it for almost three years, then I gradually came back to the dark side. Coffee (as is so eloquently stated in Skinny Bitch) makes your breath smell like ass. So why drink it? :) It may be a few days before I return to "normal".

Thanks for the support cleanse friends!

  4. You're not alone, Maggie! I went to the Minnesota State Fair yesterday and crumbled still-hot-from-the-oven chocolate chip cookies into frozen custard. That was after a piece of margherita pizza as big as my head. So I feel a bit sluggish too.

I've mentioned it before but the caffeine thing seems to be the toughest thing to give up - the withdrawals are more severe and persistent than they are for the other things we're giving up. But it's temporary - three days to a week, tops. And I think most people feel pretty good by Day 4. And those Skinny Bitches are right! I need to get that book out again - thanks for reminding me!

    You're gonna make it!
